Swampy River
Duke Ellington
Ellington at the Keys
This side was produced in New York City on October 1st 1928 featuring Duke Ellington piano.
*"Swampy River" was composed by Duke Ellington.
One of Duke Ellington's few recorded appearances as a soloist this was one of two made at the session. It has been suggested that they may have been an attempt to boost sheet music sales, yet just as easily could have been made at the record companies' request. Though the true agenda behind cutting these sides featured on the same solitary Okeh release remains unclear they offer an important un-obscured glimpse into Ellington's piano style of the period.
