Mama Stayed Out
Barrel House Five
Feat. Ed Allen
Recorded in Long Island City, New York during January of 1929 featuring Ed Allen cornet & vocals, Arville Harris clarinet & alto sax, Clarence Williams piano & speech, and Floyd Casey washboard.
*"Mama Stayed Out" was composed by Dan Wilson and Andy Razaf.
Clarence Williams' usual washboard quartet appear in top form on this 1929 cautionary novelty ballad about a cheating deceitful women. Ed Allen and Arville Harris start things out nice and easy gradually building volume and drive until Allen lets listeners know just what its all about.
(Oddly enough the "Barrel House Five" was only comprised of four members.)
