Wipe 'Em Off
Seven Gallon Jug Band
Feat. Willie "The Lion" Smith
This recording was produced in New York City on December 6th 1929 with Clarence Williams jug & vocals, Ed Allen cornet, Arville Harris clarinet & vocals, Willie "The Lion" Smith piano, and Frank Robinson bass sax, harmonica, & vocals.
*"Wipe 'Em Off" is credited to both Clarence Williams and James P. Johnson.
At this historic date Clarence Williams teams up with Willie "The Lion" Smith for their recorded performance of a song with whom he shares authorship with another "noted stride pianist" James P. Johnson.
With the punch from the bass saxophone & harmonica of Fred Robinson and advanced reed playing from Mr. Arville Harris this record was destined to become an instant classic.
This song would also be famously recorded by jazz guitarist Lonnie Johnson in 1930.
