This solo was recorded in Chicago in 1924 featuring Clarence M. Jones at the piano.

During the 1920's Clarence M. Jones was a pioneer Chicago pianist and publisher credited as the original author of "The Dirty Dozen". He was also Jimmy Blythe's piano teacher, thus accounting for the discernable similarity in their playing styles. "Clarence M. Jones' Wonder Orchestra" performed at Chicago's Owl Theater where this solo piano variation of "Hula Lou" proved to be a popular soundtrack for a novelty stage act. Additionally Clarence served as an accompanist on record to a number of prominent singers including Monette Moore (teamed up with Tommy Ladnier and Jimmy O'Bryant) as "The Paramount Trio"; and Laura Smith (during a single session in Chicago for Victor in 1927).
