When Jenny Does Her Low-Down Dance
Elgar's Creole Orchestra
Feat. Manuel Perez ?
This side was recorded in Chicago on September 17th 1926 featuring Charles Elgar violin & leader, Joe Sudler and Manuel Perez cornet, Harry Swift trombone, Darnell Howard clarinet & alto sax, Logan Thomas piano, Bill Shelby banjo, Lawson Buford bass, and Ben Thigpen drums & vocals.
*"When Jenny Does Her Low-Down Dance" was composed by Fred Rose.
Charles Elgar left New Orleans in 1913 bound for Chicago. Once there the violinist organized several bands that played in the area throughout the 1920s. At the time of these recordings he was leading a band at the Wisconsin Roof Gardens.
The second cornetist is thought to be Emmanuel Perez. If so these are the only known recordings to feature the New Orleans cornet legend.
