Feat. Woody Walder

This recording was made in Chicago on December 13th 1926, by Bennie Moten and his "Kansas City Orchestra" with Lammar Wright cornet, Thamon Hayes trombone, Harlan Leonard clarinet & alto sax, Laforest Dent alto & bass sax, Woody Walder clarinet & tenor sax, Bennie Moten piano & director, Sam Tall banjo, Vernon Page bass, and Willie McWashington drums.

*"Yazoo Blues" was composed by Bennie Moten.

"Ahh Pick it Mr. Sam" prompts Sam Tall's banjo intro with his last note triggering the entire assembly.

The kazoo-like sound heard toward the beginning of this record is actually achieved by Woody Walder playing only his clarinet mouthpiece, and cupping it with his hand to get a wah-wah effect. This novelty sound was also featured on other Moten records. -Dan Weinstein
