Published in 1929, 'Crooning Troubadour' Nick Lucas' recording of "Tip-Toe Through The Tulips" hit the top of the charts in May of that year. He first introduced the song in the motion picture musical "Gold Diggers of Broadway" after which it held the #1 position on the billboard chart for ten weeks.
