The song first appeared in the musical comedy "Street Girl" a 1929 motion picture the entire score for which was written by Clare and Levant. Sidney Clare was a dancer and comedian who had a number of successful hits as a songwriter beginning with his work for the film. His other memorable works include "On the Good Ship Lollipop", "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone", and "You’re My Thrill."
