Crazy Blues
Mamie Smith and her Jazz Hounds
The First Recorded Blues
Recorded in New York City on August 10th 1920 featuring Johnny Dunn cornet, Dope Andrews trombone, Ernest Elliott clarinet, Leroy Parker violin, and Perry Bradford piano.
*"Crazy Blues" was written by Perry Bradford. It was the very first blues song ever to be recorded and was performed for Okeh by Mamie Smith and her "Jazz Hounds". Willie "The Lion" Smith appears in photos associated with the recording session, although Perry Bradford claims to have been the pianist.
