Sobbin' Blues
King Oliver's Jazz Band
Feat. Louis Armstrong
Recorded in Chicago on June 22nd 1923 with King Oliver cornet & leader, Louis Armstrong cornet & slide whistle, Honore Dutrey trombone, Johnny Dodds clarinet, Lil Hardin piano, Bud Scott banjo, and Baby Dodds drums.
*"Sobbin' Blues" was composed by Art Kassel and Vic Berton.
The slide whistle chorus played by Armstrong provides some unique variety about thirty-five seconds in.
Somewhere in his writings, Louis says he played the slide whistle like it was "a goddam trombone."
