Coney Island Washboard
Five Harmaniacs
"Coney Island Dreams"
This record was made in New York City on September 17th 1926 by the "Five Harmaniacs" featuring Clyde Shugart kazoo, Harold Whitacre (aka Jerry Adams), Wayne Durand, Walter Howard, and Ned Nestor: harmonica, ukulele, jug, washboard, & banjo. -(Although there is surviving documentation listing the musicians names, it is not known who played what).
*""Coney Island Washboard" was written by the "Five Harmaniacs".
The "Five Harmaniacs" were the Coney Island jug band responsible for composing this popular hit which would go on to be recorded by dozens of bands and sung by many-a barbershop quartet at the height of its fame. -Oddly enough, this initial recording of the band's best known song does not incorporate the words.
